The Seth Rich Mystery – The Rise and Fall of Matt Couch

Other than Ed Butowsky, Matt Couch is probably the person who has been the most vocal in trying to find the truth behind the Seth Rich mystery.

As with many people, the Julian Assange Dutch interview in 2016 was the event that made Matt get very interested in the case.

Matt was just a regular working guy not someone who had any experience in researching murder cases. He had friends who once were involved in law enforcement. After looking into the case further, Matt started to formulate a plan to go deeper into trying to solve the mystery. He reached out to others and formed a team of non paid sleuths.

Matt and his team of investigators traveled to Washington DC in 2017 and did a lot of legwork. They attempted to retrace Seth’s movements on the night of his murder. His team interviewed or attempted to interview various people who came in contact with Seth.

They also filed several FOIA filings in order to unearth potential surveillance evidence. None of those attempts were successful that I am aware of.

His team also interviewed the person known as John Here to Help. JHTH was convincing to some members of his team. Matt’s team tried to get various DC politicians to listen to their evidence.

Matt also came in contact with Ed Butowsky and Matt claims that is where he learned of the alleged involvement of Seth’s brother Aaron.

Matt had a much stronger social media presence than Ed. He used Periscope and other platforms to record many livestreams reaching a large number of followers.

Many of his streams accused Aaron of being involved in the Wikileaks emails.

Ed mostly was a guest on podcasts and a few network interviews. Ed did post on social media as well.

Matts aggressiveness caught the attention of Aaron and others in the political establishment.

Matt, along with Ed, the Washington Times , and Fox News soon found themselves on the receiving end of a lawsuit by some very powerful law firms. The Washington Times quickly settled.

Matt had to eventually reveal his sources since he wasn’t considered a journalist. The strain on Matt was significant but he kept fighting.

Late last year, Ed, Matt, and Fox settled the Aaron Rich case and had to apologize. Other terms were not disclosed.

What hurt Matt was that there was never any hard evidence that could be produced. Key witnesses, such as Sy Hersh and Ellen Ratner denied any knowledge of the Rich brothers being involved.

The evidence may eventually be found via the FBI and NSA document releases and Matt and Ed will be vindicated

But for now, its too late for Matt who sadly suffered a divorce, loss of a job, and some health issues.

Matts passion to find out what happened on July 10th 2016 has led to a few areas of interest for those who have followed this case. Unfortunately, its difficult to point to any specific breakthroughs with all the blood, sweat, and tears that his team has endured.

He does have a legion of followers who support him financially and through prayers.

Perhaps his legacy is a warning to others who have large social media profiles. Be careful making accusations against people in power without having the evidence in hand, especially if you are not considered by the courts to be a real journalist.

That is why my posts are based on either court documents or analyzing statements made via interviews, podcasts, or social media content.

I personally have no inside knowledge on whether Seth or his family had any knowledge about the Wikileaks emails.
